CheckPeople's own pages state directly that it is "not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act guidelines" — meaning it doesn't treat itself as subject to the same accuracy and dispute rules that apply to background-check firms used for employment or tenant screening.

How to remove yourself

    Start with your email

    Go to checkpeople.com/opt-out, which opens CheckPeople's Suppression Center. Enter your email, agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy and to transactional emails about the tool, and press Continue.

    CheckPeople emails you a link. Click the link in the email to continue.

    Enter your date of birth

    Enter your birthdate and tick the box confirming it is correct. CheckPeople warns that once it's set, it can't be changed. It says the birthdate is used to match the right records and won't be shared or used for other purposes.

    Find and remove your record

    Locate your listing, select "Remove record" and confirm. No selfie or government ID is required, and CheckPeople states this applies "regardless of membership status."

If I cancel my CheckPeople subscription, does that remove my listing?
