How to Fix What Gemini Says About You
Gemini sometimes shows a "Sources" link with supporting web pages, and sometimes none at all. Fixing the pages it cites is the most reliable lever, while Google's formal correction request is discretionary.
Last checked: October 2026
Quick overview
- Gemini shows a "Sources" button under some answers (outside web content) and none under others (more likely training).
- When Gemini cites sources, fixing or suppressing those pages is the most reliable lever; answers without Sources can change only when Google updates the model.
- Google offers an in-app "Report legal issue" option for correcting inaccurate personal data, handled case by case with no published processing time.
- Deleting your own Gemini Apps Activity only affects your conversation history, not what Gemini says when someone else asks about you.

How Gemini actually generates answers about you
Google's own Gemini Apps Help documents a "Sources" button that appears below some responses, linking out to the web pages Gemini drew on — but not every response gets one.
Google states plainly: "Not all responses include related links or sources." When the button is there, that answer is pulling in outside web content, similar to how Google's AI Overviews cite supporting pages. When it's absent, the answer more likely reflects what Gemini learned during training, not something pulled from a specific current page.
This matters directly for fixing a bad answer: correcting a cited source can plausibly change a sourced response. It doesn't affect an answer with no Sources button, since that comes from the model's training rather than a page that can be edited.
How to fix what it says about you
The most reliable lever is fixing what Gemini can actually cite — Google's own correction request is worth filing too, but it's discretionary and reviewed case by case.
- 1
Audit what Gemini currently says
Ask Gemini directly about your name or business and check whether a "Sources" button appears below the response — that's the sign it pulled in outside web content.
- 2
Fix the underlying web sources
When a response cites sources, correcting or suppressing that content is the most reliable lever — the same source work behind our other suppression services.
- 3
File Google's official correction request
Use the in-app "Report legal issue" option (under "More" beneath a response), or the Gemini Apps Help Center request, to ask for inaccurate personal data to be corrected — a secondary layer, not the primary fix.
- 4
Use in-app feedback as a backup
The "Good response"/"Bad response" buttons feed into Google's general quality process. It's an additional signal, with no guarantee of a specific action.
Notice: When a Gemini response cites sources, it's only repeating what those specific pages say. Worth checking whether that one can just be removed outright — a free answer within 24 hours.
If it doesn't stick
Google's general content-removal guidance says it "typically" removes or restricts access to content that qualifies under its policies, which is conditional rather than a guarantee. Gemini's Help Center describes the right to correct inaccurate personal data as available "under applicable privacy laws," which ties it to the laws that apply in the requester's jurisdiction.
Answers with no Sources button can change only when Google updates the model itself, on a schedule it doesn't publish. We monitor what Gemini says across model updates and keep correcting the sources it cites, when it cites one.
That ongoing correction is what our AI Reputation Repair service does.
Common questions
Does Google have a way to just delete what Gemini says about me?
There's a documented path — Gemini's Help Center describes a right to ask for inaccurate personal data in its responses to be corrected, reachable through the in-app "Report legal issue" option. It's handled under Google's general policies, reviewed case by case rather than guaranteed, and only affects Gemini's own answers, not the underlying web pages.
Does correcting a website actually change what Gemini says?
When Gemini shows a "Sources" link under its answer, yes — that response is pulling in outside web content, and fixing what those pages say can plausibly change a future answer. When no Sources link appears, the response likely reflects what Gemini learned during training, which a website correction can't directly touch.
Does deleting my Gemini activity stop it from describing me to other people?
No — Gemini's own privacy controls (auto-delete period, manual deletion of "Gemini Apps Activity") only affect your own conversation history. They have no effect on what Gemini says about you when someone else asks about your name or business — a frequent source of confusion, since the two are easy to conflate.
Can I stop Gemini from ever mentioning me?
No — there's no blanket opt-out from being discussed. The available official path, reached through the in-app "Report legal issue" option or a Gemini Apps Help Center request, is narrower: asking Google to correct specific inaccurate personal information in a response, not to exclude a name entirely.
How long does a Google correction request like this take?
Google doesn't publish a fixed processing time for this specific request type. Requests are reviewed case by case under Google's general content policies, the same way its equivalent Search and AI Overviews removal requests are.
Do I pay if the AI answer doesn't change?
AI Reputation Repair is billed for the work performed, and no change to an AI answer is guaranteed. Our removal services are different: they are no-removal, no-fee, and you're invoiced only once we achieve the removal defined in your Service Agreement.
