How to Remove Your Information from Intelius
Intelius is one of several background-check brands owned by PeopleConnect, all sharing the same suppression portal. Canceling a paid subscription won't take your listing down — here's the actual removal process, and which other sites it covers at the same time.
Quick overview
- Intelius is owned by PeopleConnect, alongside TruthFinder and Instant Checkmate — see the full family.
- One suppression request can cover all PeopleConnect brands at once — here's the process.
- Canceling a subscription does not remove your listing — here's why.
- Third-party trackers estimate Intelius listings can reappear within roughly three to six months after a successful suppression — PeopleConnect has never officially acknowledged this pattern. More on what to expect.
What is Intelius
Intelius is a background-check and people-search site owned by PeopleConnect, Inc., a Seattle-based company backed by H.I.G. Capital since a July 2015 acquisition.
PeopleConnect also owns TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, US Search, Classmates, ZabaSearch, and OmniWatch, along with smaller sites like Addresses.com and PeopleLookup. Notably, BeenVerified is a separate company (owned by The Lifetime Value Co.) and not part of this family, and TruePeopleSearch's ownership is also unconfirmed and separate — worth knowing so you don't assume one opt-out covers sites it doesn't.
How to remove yourself
Because all PeopleConnect brands route through one shared suppression portal, this single process is designed to clear your record across Intelius and its sister sites at once.
- 1
Start a suppression request
Enter your email at suppression.peopleconnect.us and click the verification link sent to you — it expires in about 15 minutes.
- 2
Identify your record
Enter your full legal name, date of birth, and address, then find and select your matching record or records.
- 3
Verify and suppress
Confirm your identity with a code sent to your email or phone, then set the record's "Desired Behavior" to "Suppressed."
Active federal judges and their immediate relatives can bypass the standard form by emailing [email protected] with proof of judicial status. For general CCPA requests, Intelius's own data broker filing lists (888) 245-1655 and [email protected] as direct contact points.
Why canceling a subscription isn't enough
A common and costly mistake is assuming that canceling a paid Intelius background-check subscription removes your listing. It doesn't — canceling only stops Intelius from charging your card.
Your record stays in the database, fully searchable by anyone, because the listing and the subscription are two separate things. Suppression through the opt-out portal above is the only way to actually take the listing down.
Intelius hasn't published an official response-time SLA — third-party estimates for how long suppression takes range widely, from about 48 hours up to 10 business days — and reappearance after a successful suppression is reported by third-party trackers, though not officially acknowledged by PeopleConnect.
Common questions
Who founded Intelius, and is it still run by its original founders?
No — Intelius was founded in 2003 by six former Infospace executives, including Naveen Jain, according to Wikipedia. Jain no longer runs the company: when H.I.G. Capital acquired Intelius in July 2015, Abani Heller replaced him as CEO.
Has Intelius always operated under the Intelius name?
No — in 2012 its then-parent company rebranded as "inome" for a period, while keeping the Intelius name specifically for its background-check service. It reverted to operating as Intelius after H.I.G. Capital's 2015 acquisition, according to Wikipedia.
Does opting out of Intelius also remove me from TruthFinder or Instant Checkmate?
It should, since Intelius, TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, US Search, Classmates, ZabaSearch, and OmniWatch all share one unified suppression portal at suppression.peopleconnect.us — a single successful suppression request is designed to cover all of them at once. Just don't assume it reaches every people-search site: BeenVerified and TruePeopleSearch are separate companies outside the PeopleConnect family, so each needs its own opt-out.
How do I contact Intelius directly?
Per Intelius's own California data broker registration, consumers can submit CCPA-related requests by calling (888) 245-1655 or emailing [email protected]. For routine suppression requests, the primary channel is the shared opt-out portal at suppression.peopleconnect.us rather than a phone call.
Can a friend, relative, or a service like Removacy submit my Intelius request for me?
Yes, as an authorized agent — but PeopleConnect's own privacy policy requires real documentation before it will act on that: either a written authorization from you (with your full name, address, phone number, and email) or a valid power of attorney. It also independently re-verifies the agent's authority by contacting you directly at your own email address, not just trusting the paperwork submitted.
